Refund Policy
Last updated: August 28, 2026
The short version. Photographs are delivered as digital files, so sales are final once your download has been prepared. That said, if you were charged twice, your download never arrived, or the files are unusable, email us and we will put it right. We would rather fix a problem than win an argument about one.
1. Digital goods are final sales
Every purchase from ohiomichael.com is a digital download. Once your files have been prepared and made available to your account, the sale is final and the purchase is non-refundable.
This is not an arbitrary rule. A digital file cannot be returned — once you have the full-resolution photograph, you keep it whether or not the money comes back. A refund after delivery would mean giving away the work.
This policy forms part of our Terms of Service.
2. When we will refund you
The rule above has real exceptions, and we honour them without argument. We will refund your order if:
- You were charged more than once for the same order, or charged for an order that was cancelled. We refund the duplicate in full.
- Your download was never delivered. If preparing your files failed and we cannot fix it, you get your money back.
- The files are corrupt or unusable — the archive will not open, an image is damaged, or you received the wrong photograph. We will first try to rebuild your download; if we cannot deliver working files, we refund you.
- You were charged without authorisation. If someone used your card or account without permission, tell us immediately and we will refund and investigate.
- We cancelled your order after taking payment — for example because a photograph was withdrawn or mispriced. Always refunded in full.
Beyond these, we may still issue a refund at our discretion. Ask. A reasonable request explained honestly tends to get a reasonable answer, and a small store can afford to use judgment where a large one cannot.
3. When we will not
To be straightforward with you rather than leave it vague, these are not grounds for a refund:
- You changed your mind, or bought the photograph by mistake, after the download was prepared.
- You bought the wrong photograph but the correct files were delivered.
- The photograph does not suit the use you had in mind, or does not print the way you expected. Monitors and printers vary; check the preview carefully before buying.
- You did not read the license before buying and cannot use the photograph commercially. Section 5 of the Terms explains what a purchase permits, and we are happy to answer licensing questions before you order.
- You never got round to downloading the files. They remain in your account.
- Your license was terminated because you breached it.
4. Cancelling before you pay
An order you have not paid for can be cancelled at no cost. Open your account page and cancel the pending order — the photographs go back into your cart and nothing is charged. Pending orders that are not paid within the checkout window are released automatically.
5. How to request a refund
Email contact@ohiomichael.com within 14 days of your purchase and include:
- Your order number — it appears on your receipt and on your account page;
- The email address on your account;
- What went wrong, in as much detail as you can give us. If the archive will not open, tell us what happens when you try.
We aim to respond within two business days. Requests about a failed or corrupt download are welcome after 14 days too — if we have not delivered what you paid for, that does not expire.
6. How refunds are issued
Approved refunds are returned through Stripe to the original payment method. We cannot refund to a different card, to a different person, or as store credit or cash.
Once we issue a refund it typically reaches your account within five to ten business days, depending on your bank. That timing is set by your card issuer, not by us.
Where an order is refunded, the license granted in Section 5 of the Terms ends automatically, and you must delete the files and stop using them.
7. Sales tax
Where sales tax was charged, it is refunded together with the purchase price.
8. Please talk to us before filing a chargeback
If something has gone wrong with an order, email us first. A chargeback takes weeks, costs us a fee whatever the outcome, and locks the order while the bank reviews it — whereas we can usually rebuild a broken download the same day, or refund you outright.
We do dispute chargebacks filed on orders that were delivered correctly, and we reserve the right to suspend an account with an unresolved chargeback against it.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The version in force when you placed your order is the one that applies to it.
